I felt the grass tickle my ankles and heard the crunch of the leaves as I ran among what would be a beautiful forest. The sun is at the perfect level for things to be coated in a soft golden hue. The sound of birds chirping in the air and the rustling of leaves as a soft and warm breeze blew through the tall trees. I heard a burst of high-pitched laughter coming from behind me.
¨I'm going to get you my pretty! You can run but you can't hide!¨ He screamed.
My heart beating in my ears, the feeling of adrenaline being pumped through my veins over time, my blood running cold as the muscles in my thighs and calves started to ache. I started to struggle to breathe but I knew I couldn´t stop. The moment I stop is the moment I sign away my life to the Keeper of the Dead. If I die, hopefully, this warm summer day is the last thing I remember before I go. I try to push those thoughts away.
Just keep running, stay positive and maybe you´ll get some luck.
The sound of high-pitched laughter struck my ears again. ¨I'm going to get you! You can´t lose me!¨ The voice screamed again.
I felt the breeze hitting the tears on my face, letting my face cool down. Suddenly the laughter stopped, the sound of leaves crunching behind me stopped.
Do I dare turn around? Do I dare stop to see if my luck changed?
I awoke with a start and took a deep breath. It was all a dream. Just a dream. I tried to calm my breathing but stopped when I realized no breath came from my nose or my mouth. It wasn't a dream. He had got me. He got me just like he said. I was no longer free.
